LOCAL NEWS Power outage overloads 91 1 the same reason. The Fair Lawn Police Department reminds residents that the 911 system is for emergencies only. Non-emergencies are to be called in on one of the administrative lines. In addition, when incidents occur such as a power outage, the police department is usually already aware of the situation because of observations made by the police officers working on the road in patrol. The police realize that no electrical power is a real concern for the residents, however the volume of calls made that night put a strain on the ability to attend to real FAIR LAWN On May 11 at 5:25 p.m., the Borough of Fair Lawn experienced a power outage affecting approximately half of the town, including the traffic lights at the intersection of Fair Lawn Avenue and Plaza Road.

Because of this incident, the Fair Lawn Police Department's 911 system became overloaded with people calling to report that they had no power. In the frenzy of phone calls, the borough's 911 system locked up forcing all 911 calls to be handled by neighboring jurisdictions.
