CLIFTON JOURNAL MAY 24, 2013 19 OBITUARIES Joseph Carnemolla CLIFTON Joseph Carnemolla, 78, of Laguna Woods, died on Monday, April 15, 2013. He was a former resident of this city. Born in Paterson, Mr. Carnemolla lived in Clifton, moved to Southern California in 1974 and lived in Orange there before moving to Laguna Woods. He worked for an industrial air compressor company for more than 33 years before retiring.

Mr. Carnemolla is survived by his wife, Claire; and his daughter, Karen. Gustave Liptak CLIFTON Gustave F. Liptak, 76, of this city, died on Thursday, April 25, 2013. Mr.

Liptak was born in Wallington. Stephen Geng CLIFTON Stephen Geng, 75, of North Caldwell, died on Friday, April 26, 2013. He was a former resident of this city. Born in Schandra, Romania, Mr. Geng was raised in Austria and came to the United States in the early 1950s, living in Garfield and Clifton before moving to North Caldwell in 1966.

He was a carpenter and framer for many years. Later, he was the co-owner of the South Avenue Car Wash, Plainfield, for more than 25 years. Mr. Geng is survived by his sons, Stephen and Richard; his sisters, Mary Pfefferkorn and Theresa Haller; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances; his sister, Rose Stadler; and his brother, John.

Corinne Peterman CLIFTON Corinne Adaire Peterman, 81, of Riverdale, died on Saturday, April 27, 2013. She was a former resident of this city. Born in Paterson, Mrs. Peterman lived in Clifton before moving to Riverdale. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Peterman is survived by her husband, Robert; her daughters, Robin Grey and Patricia Whelan; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Mary Hillmann. Kathleen Toomey CLIFTON Kathleen A. Toomey, 49, of this city, died on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

She was a former resident of this city. She lived in Wayne for most of her life before moving to Clifton in 2003. She was an assembler with Easter Seals Disability Services, and John of Virginia; her sister, Elizabeth Breeman, of Wyckoff; five grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Marinus. Josephine Hamer CLIFTON Josephine Cohen Hamer, 95, of this city, died on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

Mrs. Hamer was a shipping clerk at Uniroyal Company, Passaic, for 25 years. Also, she was a member of the Clifton Seniors Association, the Valley Seniors, and the Community Seniors, all in Clifton. Mrs. Hamer is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Lawrence Noll, of Clifton; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; her brothers, Joseph and Alex Conway; and her sisters, Esther Kutner, Lena Spara-go, and Jennie Silverman. Edward Schneider CLIFTON Edward J. Schneider, 77, of this city, died on Monday, April 29, 2013. Born in Jersey City, Mr. Schneider lived in Nutley before moving to Clifton in 2003.

He was a seam-ster for Excellent Cotton, Palisades Park, before retiring. Mr. Schneider is survived by his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marilyn Noble. Peter Rossi CLIFTON Peter A.

Rossi 71, of Cold Springs, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. He was a former resident of this city. Mr. Rossi was a quality assurance specialist for the U.S. Army at Fort Monmouth.

Also, he was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Rossi is survived by his children, Peter of Belleville, and Kelly of Lodi; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Margaret. John Sedlak CLIFTON John Sedlak 90, of this city, died on Monday, April 29, 2013.

Born in Udol, Czechoslovakia, Mr. Sedlak came to the United States in 1940 and lived in Passaic and Garfield before moving to Clifton in 1957. He was a lumber yard foreman at Bakker Lumber Clifton, where he worked for 35 years. Later, he was a security guard, primarily at Nabisco in Fair Lawn, before retiring. He was a U.S.

Army veteran of World War II as well. And, he was a parishioner of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Cathedral, Passaic. Franklin. Later, she was a member of the Center for Family Support and worked in one of its workshops in Hackensack.

She was a member of Explorer Post 136 BSA as well. She is survived by her mother, Dolores, of Wayne; her brother, Thomas, of Denver, and her sister, Lori Derstine, of Wayne. She was predeceased by her father, Thomas. Warren Both CLIFTON Warren J. Both, 91, of Wayne, died on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

He was a former resident of this city. Born in Paterson, Mr. Both lived in Clifton and then in Cape Coral, for 22 years before returning to New Jersey in 2001. He worked for Bendix Teterboro, for 32 years before retiring in 1980. Previously, he worked for Curtis Wright Fairfield.

He was a U.S. Army veteran as well. Mr. Both is survived by his daughters, Carol Mascera of Clifton, and Nancy Both of Lake Hiawatha; his son, Robert, of Wayne; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Holloran.

Maria Pukalak CLIFTON Maria Czepil Pukalak, 87, of this city, died on Monday, April 29, 2013. Born in Werbiv, the Ukraine, Mrs. Pukalak came to the United States in 1950 and lived in Passaic before moving to Clifton in 1963. She was an assembly worker for Bright Star Industries in Clifton for 15 years and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Also, she was a parishioner of St.

Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Clifton, where she was a member of the choir. She was a member of the Ukrainian Center in Passaic as well. Mrs. Pukalak is survived by her daughter, Luba, of Wayne; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John.

Adrianna Greendyk CLIFTON Adriana "Ada" Donkersloot Greendyk, 93, of North Haledon, died on Sunday, April 28, 2013. She was the mother of Marjorie Rose of this city. Born in Passaic, Mrs. Greendyk lived in Prospect Park and Pomp-ton Plains before moving to North Haledon. She was a member of the Ebenezer Netherlands Reformed Church, Franklin Lakes.

Mrs. Greendyk also is survived by her sons, Richard of Wayne, Mr. Sedlak is survived by his sons, John of Clifton, and Steve of West Bloomfield, his brothers, Michael of Sussex, Steve of Saddle Brook, and Paul of Clifton; his sister, Helen Manz, of Clearwater, and a grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Elizabeth Surgent; and his parents, Michael and Helen. Theresa Betar CLIFTON Theresa Tarantino Betar, 86, of this city, died on Monday, April 29, 2013.

Born in Paterson, Mrs. Betar lived in Clifton for most of her life. She was a mail supervisor at the Passaic County Courthouse, Paterson, before retiring. Also, she was a parishioner of St. Ann Melkite Church, Woodland Park.

Mrs. Betar is survived by her daughter, Elaine, of Clifton; her son, Gregory, of Oak Ridge; her brother, Alfonzo Tarantino, of California; her sisters, Constance Komporlis of Clifton, and Antoinette Manley of California; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis; her son, Robert; her brothers, John and Joseph Tarantino; and her sister, Jean Cruz. Albert Barthold CLIFTON Albert E. Barthold, 91, of Burlington, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

He was a former resident of this city. Born in Passaic, Mr. Barthold lived in Clifton for most of his life before moving to Toms River in 1993 and then to Burlington in 2003. He was a purchasing agent for De Graff Dairy, Clifton, for 18 years before retiring in 1983. Previously, he was a purchasing agent for Lotz Dairy in Clifton and Franklin Lakes.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a 65-year member and past master of Lessing-Passaic Masonic Lodge 67, Rutherford. And, he was a member, former elder, and deacon of the United Reformed Church of Clifton. Mr.

Barthold is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Steele; his daughters, Linda Burgess of Arroyo Grande, Donna Barthold of Wilmington, N.C., Laurie Kastelberg of Richmond, and Elizabeth Williams of Gainesville, nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Stanley Lubas CLIFTON Stanley Lubas, 87, of Lyndhurst, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. He was a former resident of this city. Born in Poland, Mr. Lubas moved to Clifton in 1953 and then to Lyndhurst 50 years ago.

He was a machinist for Automatic Screw Machine Company, Butler, for 20 years before retiring in 1975. Mr. Lubas is survived by his daughters, Lorraine Lubas of Lyndhurst, and Elayne Parisi of Wyckoff; and his granddaughter. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Anna Powell. Calvin Wesley CLIFTON Calvin S.

Wesley, 88, of this city, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Born in Torrington, Mr. Wesley moved to Clifton 60 years ago. He was the president and CEO of Vertex Industries, Clifton, where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 1984. Also, he was a U.S.

Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Allwood Community Church, where he served as a trustee and deacon, as well. Mr. Wesley is survived by his wife, the former Betty Noad; his daughters, Deborah Tucker and Beth Meyer, both of Clifton; his sister, Lillian Galpin, of Torrington, six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Ethel Simko CLIFTON Ethel Ohrin Simko, 85, of this city, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

Born in Edwardsville, Mrs. Simko lived in Passaic for 21 years before moving to Clifton in 1962. She was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, Passaic, for several years before retiring many years ago. Also, she was a parishioner of St. John Kanty R.C.

Church, Clifton. She was a member of the Wayne Elks Lodge 2181 Ladies Auxiliary as well. Mrs. Simko is survived by her daughters, Ethel Boccafogli of Susquehanna, and Alice Chirichello of Clifton; her sister, Verna Malkowicz, of Vernon; five grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest; her son, Mark; five brothers; and three sisters.

Gertrude Seltmann CLIFTON Gertrude Mae McElhone Seltmann, 91, of this city, died on Thursday, May 2, 2013. Born in Hackensack, Mrs. Seltmann lived in Fairfield before moving to Clifton 23 years ago. She was an assembler for Bendix Teterboro, before retiring in 1981. Also, she was a member of the United Reformed Church, Clifton.

Mrs. Seltmann is survived by her sons, Kenneth of Vista, Calif, and William of Tranquility; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur; and her brother, George McElhone..
