The Belleville Thursday, December 16, 1976 This week was not my week thing by Helen Maguire THERE ARE many things that annoy me and at certain hectic times of the year, I tend to get more annoyed than usual and nobody's going to tell me that I'm alone in that. Monday was a banner day for annoyances. Standing with a number at a deli counter, waiting for the lone clerk to reach me, I was appalled, when, at the appearance of another salesman, a woman, two numbers behind me, pushed her way in and got waited on. The woman whose number came before mine was equally annoyed and why one of us didn't open our mouths is more than I can imagine at this point. But we didn't.

We just stood there, looking daggers at the intruder who was completely nonplussed by the whole thing. ANNOYANCE number two came when Tea For More Than Two A few members of the Committee for Mental Health share a laugh at a recent afternoon discussion-meeting. From (I-r) Ruth Cowell, Executive director; Millie Hacker, Elsie Yorton, June Moritz and Jacqueline Imhoff. got home with the slipcover I had purchased for the couch and 1 discovered that same was wretchedly put together, with seams sewed on the wrong side and visible holes in one of the cushions. Since the package wasn't marked irregular or seconds or damaged goods, I think I had every right to expect to open it and find something I could use instead of something I must take back and exchange.

Readymade covers are hard to come by, especially when you want a particular color and since the couch has seen far better days. I refuse to indulge it in an expensive new wardrobe. Now, however, I must return to the store where I purchased the article, wait in an exchange line and then wait again in a check out line which will mean at least another half hour since I am convinced this particular place of business doesn't hire a cashier unless he has proved he can operate at no faster than dead slow. ANNOYANCE number three was the discovery that the new portable television we purchased doesn't fit the stand we already have, misses it by a mere inch and a half. That's nobody's fault but our own since neither the Irishman nor I realized that portables are not standard sizes.

Since the set we discarded and the set we bought were the same size as far as the screen went, we naively assumed they were the same size as far as everything else went. Not so. At this point, the television rests secure- Caroline H. Ross, James Bernarducci engaged to wed Mr. and Mrs.

It will serve the purpose nicely until the holidays a are over and one of us has enough presence of mind to measure tha set and go out and purchase a new stand.

ANNOYANCE number four was Rod's realization that the beautiful blue walIpaper we had selected and carted home for the living room, was the devil's own to hang, ripping at every touch. The first piece went up and down three times as I sat there with my fingers crossed, thanking the kind providence that had made us purchase more paper than we needed.
